We all love sugar, right? Mamma loves it just as much as the next person. It's tasty, it lifts your spirits and makes you happy!! Sugar is a natural substance that we use to flavor drinks and many foods. The key word here is "natural". Your body recognizes it and can metabolize it. It is something to enjoy but also to limit. It can be dangerous to have too much sugar in our daily diets.
A new additive , Sweeymyx, ( also known as S617 by SENOMYX) is going to be used to flavor Pepsi's non-alcoholic beverages. The general thought is that the sweeymyx will replace the amount of sugar in the cola, thereby reducing the amount of sugar. Our bodies recognize sugar and really there is ALOT of sugar in so much of our food.
Since Sweetmyx is an "additive", do we know how it will affect our bodies long term? How will it interact with other additives or colorings already in food? Click the link below to read what Bruce Bradley, a food blogger, thinks about Sweetmyx. He has an interesting perspective since he came from the processed food industry. You decide for yourself what you think of Sweetmyx. Remember, "Mamma wants you to feel good!"

The other day as Mamma was shopping in her favorite market, I walked down the cleaning products isle and my eyes immediately began to burn. I could not only smell the heavy fragrance, I could feel it burn my eyes. The fragrance I was reacting to was from heavily scented candles , dryer softener sheets, and laundry soap.
Synthetic fragrances will many times be composed of petrochemicals. Petrochemicals are derived from natural gas and petroleum. They build up in our bodies over time. Phthalates are also found in many synthetic fragrances. Phthalates have been found to be endocrine disruptors and suspected carcinogens.
All of HomeopathicMamma's products are synthetic fragrance free. This is why I had to break up with synthetic fragrance!
The following article from Natural News details the concerns regarding synthetic fragrances.

Mamma was reading one of her favorite magazines and was very impressed by the skincare remedies and tips. Great skin is an indicator of good health, peace and balance. Don't we all want beautiful skin? For many of us , that is not so easy.
Years ago when my children were having skin rashes and skin problems, I was concerned with the different synthetic fragrances and additives in many topical products. ( As many of you know, Mamma's products are synthetic fragrance free, SLS free, paraben and preservative free! ) There are many ingredients in skincare products that can disrupt the PH or ( potential hydrogen ) level of the skin.
Our skin is happiest at about a 5.5 level of PH. If you use products that unbalance this PH, you can develop rashes , skin tightness, dulling of the skin , etc. Click the link below to read about the PH of our skin and what you can do to keep your skin's PH level balance.

Mamma was at a trade show benefit for a philanthropy last night. As I was talking with other vendors , the subject came up about food additives and chemicals and what was safe and what wasn't. So much of our food is "factory manufactured" . A half century ago, all food was "from the farm" and additives were relatively unknown.
Today there are so many additives and chemicals in our food that it's hard to decipher what's good or bad. The Center for Science in the Public Interest has categorized additives into , safe, cutback, avoid, caution, and certain people should avoid. This is a great resource and something to copy and take with you to the grocery store! Click the link below to educate yourself on food additives. Mamma wants you to be healthy!

Mamma was at her favorite natural food store and was trying to decide which cleaning products would be the safest to use in her home. The labels can be very confusing and hard to understand . Check out the safe product labeling guidelines from the EPA at http://www.epa.gov/dfe/pubs/projects/formulat/saferproductlabeling.htm
If you are curious how to read other labels on cleaning products check out the Environmental Working Groups guide.
Remember we all have to be diligent with regard to the products we buy and use. We cannot always depend on companies who sell their products to tell us what is best. Be your own best advocate for your own healthy lifestyle. Mamma wants you to feel good!

Mamma was shopping at her favorite grocery store the other day and noticed a can labeled BPA-free. Surprised to see this , I decided to do some checking on this substance called BPA.
Here is a quick outline of BPA. The full name is Bisphenol A and it is used to make shatter resistant plastic and to coat the interior of food and drink cans. BPA is a synthetic estrogen that has been linked to cancer, disruption of the endocrine system , obesity and infertility. BPA is also found on retail store receipts. OH MY! MAMMA SAYS GO AWAY BPA!!
What do you think about BPA? Is it as bad as it sounds? Click the link below to decide for yourself. Mamma wants you be healthy!!
